Hardin Insurance Inc. began Jan 15, 1985, as Mike Hardin Agency representing American National Insurance Co., established as a personal lines “captive” insurance agency. As a “captive” insurance agency, American National Insurance and its subsidiaries underwrote all the products we offered. Our focus was to help our clients identify their needs and desires and create the best insurance portfolio possible to meet these needs. I, Mike, received my Certified Financial Planning designation from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, CO, in 1994 and applied it to assisting my clients with special investment needs. Meanwhile, Candy handled the property and casualty insurance policy changes. In 2006, American National elected to leave the state of Florida due to hurricane exposure afforded by our sunny state. This traumatic experience left us with a huge decision. Should we find another carrier that used captive agents to insure all the homes American National was canceling, or become an independent agency that made contracts with carriers to ensure continuing protection for our clients? As a dad with five small children, I chose the path that gave my clients the assurance they needed: their agent would always provide them with quality insurance for all their needs. My decision would give my clients peace of mind and my children a roof over their heads! We incorporated Mike Hardin Agency as Hardin Insurance Inc. and began moving our clients to stable insurance companies with an appetite for new business in Florida. We evaluated many companies to ensure they had the financial stability to pay their claims. Retooling our agency to understand and comply with underwriting, pricing, and risk analysis for 18 companies caused me to leave the financial planning behind and focus on which company best met our client’s needs. Many clients sought our advice for their business and commercial insurance needs. As we progressed as an independent agency, we forged strong relationships with regional general agencies and offered quality insurance protection to our clients in need of business insurance. Years after our remaking of Hardin Insurance Inc., we have worked diligently to provide our clients with education, guidance, and the best insurance possible to meet their needs. Our personal touch and professional attitude provide our clients and growing families (currently nine kids for Mike!) peace of mind and many good night’s sleep. Our enduring vision throughout the existence of our agency is to treat every person we encounter with respect and dignity and give them the tools they need to protect their loved ones and themselves.
